FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ

I would like to purchase an artwork I see here--how can I do that?

Awesome! As always, all SWAN Day sales go directly through the artists. Prices are listed along with artist's contact information which they provided for business inquiries. Please reach out to them directly.

NOTE: Some pieces have already sold. We have indicated the sales which we are aware of, however, some sales may have taken place after artists collected their work from us. If you reach out to an artist about their work and they inform you the piece has already sold, we invite you to inquire about additional work they may have available!

NFS = Not For Sale

I like the artwork of a particular artist here--do they have other pieces available?

Great! Check out their website and/or social media. They may have other pieces listed there. Otherwise, we encourage you to reach out to them personally.

Can I commission an artist here for a project?

Love your enthusiasm! That's a question only the individual artists can answer. Please feel free to contact them directly.

It's not in my budget to financially support artists at this time, but I would like to show my support. What can I do?

Fantastic question. Even if you're not in a position to back an artist with your bucks, your support is meaningful!

  • Direct traffic their way, i.e. share their work with people you know! If you're not able to buy their work, some of them may! You can also request their work as a gift. (:
  • Connect them! Aware of a person or business looking to commission an artist and think the artist is a good fit? Let the artist know about the opportunity. Promote their work. 5 star reviews aren't just for online platforms, they happen person-to-person. Networking can make a big difference for independent artists and makers. Be the link.
  • Follow them on social media. Like, comment, and follow/subscribe. When you share their work online, make sure the source is visible and @ them!
  • When we are safely able to return to in-person gatherings again: Head to their shows, their tables at markets. Be with artists in the community and tell them how you feel about them and their work.

I had really wanted to see this show in person--what happened?

We really wanted to share it with you!

The physical exhibit opened in March of 2020 at dual locations: The Milwaukee Art Therapy Collective and Bloom at Sherman Phoenix. The Artist's Reception was scheduled for the last Saturday in March (the official international SWAN Day). However, due to COVID-19, it became clear that we would not be able to proceed with the viewings and celebrations that we had planned for (for months!).

The Milwaukee Art Therapy Collective was able to create a Virtual Gallery Walk for the online international celebration (viewable on their facebook page).

While the Artist Reception was originally postponed, it became apparent by summer that COVID restrictions would not be lifted as soon as we had hoped. Because we were not able to keep the work at both sites indefinitely, we had to make the difficult decision to take the show down and return the artwork to their makers.

Why did you create a website?

The dual location exhibit was a labor of love, and we poured hundreds of volunteer hours into it. It hurt us that we were not able to share the exhibit with the community or celebrate our artists in the reception we had planned for them.

After a period of grieving this loss along with all the others we had encountered so far in 2020, we took some time to center ourselves and rally around this year's theme of transformative power.

We knew that the work deserved a platform and that now, especially, our community needed a reminder of their power and of the possibility of transformation.

Before COVID-19 was on the horizon, when we chose this theme, we could not have known its importance for this year.

This website serves as a container. It is a space where we honor the effort and heart that each SWAN artist had put into their work. Here is a space to bear witness to the will of women, our strength in our vulnerability and authenticity, and our ability to be present with what is, and our aspirations in unfolding what can be.

Our art is the language of our transformation.
