LETTER TO OUR SWAN FAMILY

Dear Swans,

To be frank, the collective and individual experiences we have endured and witnessed this year have been heartbreakingly heavy. We have faced, and are facing, an ongoing global pandemic which has touched every part of our existence and lead (and continues to lead to) loss of lives and livelihoods. We have been moved by the momentum of BLACK LIVES MATTER, spurred by tragic injuries and deaths, police brutality, and militarized resistance which brought the epidemic of racism and inequity in this country into undeniable focus. We watched for months as our nation's democracy hung in the balance, unsure of the outcome of our presidential election, and its resulting implications.

We have traversed these trials and tribulations, along with a slew of personal hardships while at an unprecedented distance from each other. Goodness knows we have all been tried this year.

Whatever defines 2020 for you, know that even if you feel defeated by it in this moment, 2020 does NOT define you or what you are capable of.

"A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform."

Diane Mariechild

Swan sisters, we invite you to keep these words close at heart. Whatever you are feeling about your experiences, your community, the country, and the world, know that it is valid. It is ok to not be ok. We know it takes courage to be here now. In all you have been through, know that you are worthy of love and compassion; give yourself permission to give it to yourself.

As 2020 comes to a close, we recognize that when the clock strikes 12:01 on January 1st, things will not magically transform for the better. But we also know that change is the only constant in life. This moment, this month, this past year is not what forever looks like. While our burdens may not feel immediately lighter, we invite you to join us in drinking deeply from the cup of hope and setting meaningful intentions and action plans for the new year. We invite you to dwell with us in possibility. There will always be paths before you--choices, opaque and otherwise.

Courage is not the absence of fear. Owning your power is a choice to step forward.

"When I dare to be powerful - to use my strength in the service of my vision - then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."

- Audre Lorde

Step into your power. You are capable. You are worthy. You are embraced by this community.

With Deep Love and Gratitude,
